报告简介:

During the presentation, Tongming will give a brief introduction about UWA, and then the research activities he is taking, focusing mainly on the control (suppressing and enhancing) of vortex shedding and vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) of cylindrical structures using passive methods. The suppression of VIV is important for avoiding structural failure of offshore structures whereas the enhancement of VIV is desired for the purpose of harnessing the hydrokinetic energy.

主讲人简介:

Tongming Zhou is currently a professor and the Civil Program Chair in The University of Western Australia. Prior join UWA in 2007, he worked in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, for more than 7 years. He obtained his BEng, MEng and PhD from Dalian University of Technology, Tsinghua University and Newcastle University, respectively. His main research areas include wind tunnel testing, experimental fluid mechanics using hot wire anemometers and PIV, vortex shedding from single and multiple bluff bodies, vortex-induced vibration of marine risers and pipelines, control (suppressing or enhancing) of vortex-induced vibrations using passive and active methods, sloshing using 6DOF hexapod.
